Nissan Repair: 89 Pulsar GL 1.6 Squeal in Reverse, Smoke and stink., valve cover, squeal

Hi,

in the last few days my Pulsar has started making a squealing noise as soon as I put it in Reverse(Manual Trans), even if I'm not moving. While backing in and out of a tiny sparking space the other day it started doing and also started smoking from under the hood.

Looks and sounds like it's coming from a belt on the drivers side. Any help appreciated.

Hi Daniel -

The only thing I can think of for the squeaking is the clutch bearing. Does it have to be in reverse to make that sound, or does the sound come out as soon as you depress the clutch?

For the smoke, try checking the valve cover gaskets. Can you tell me if you see spilled oil on your exhaust manifolds?
