Pontiac Repair: 1997 Grand Am Window Motor, rivots, rivot

Question
I am attempting to replace the window motor/regulator assembly. It appears there are several rivets that require removal as well as bolts for removal. I've looked around online and cannot find a good procedure to replace the assembly. What is the ideal way to replace this assembly? Do the rivets require removal?

Answer
Hi Chris:

yes you have to remove all 5 of them I think hold the regulator and motor to the door. tbe best way to remove them is to drill out the center of the rivot and then use a chissel to break the head off the rivot the regulator will then come out. It needs to be rivoted back onto the door. You will not be able to use nuts and bold to attach it. I belive the rivots are 1/4" in diameter and you need one that the center post of the rivot is metal not aluminum. if you use aluminum center rivots the regulator will eventually loosen up on the door. Good luck :)
