Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): base gasket, vertical shaft, blue thread

Question
Hello, I have a B&S 14.5 hp vertical shaft engine that needs the base gasket replaced.  The engine number is: 287707 and the code is: 9507274A  I have the engine removed from the frame of the MTD Ranch King 42" mower.  Would it be possible to just turn the engine 180* on it's top and take the case base housing off to replace the gasket?  I removed the engine to see where it was leaking oil ( since nearly new ) and found out that the four case bolts that go into the bottom had backed out!  All four, incredible.  Thank you, I appreciate the information.

Answer
Hello Dave:

Yes, Just Turn the Engine Upside Down (after draining the oil) and Remove the Oil Pan/Sump. When Replacing the Oil Pan/Sump Bolts, Use Blue Thread Lock to Ensure the Bolts Do Not Loosen Again. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers 287707-xxxx XXX is the the First 4  Engine Type Numbers).  Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Make Sure the Oil Pan/Sump and the Engine Block Mating Surfaces are Clean of the Old Gasket. You can Use a Thin Coat of Gasket Sealer to Help Hold the Gasket in Place While Replacing the Oil Pan/Sump. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
