Towing Issues: Chrysler Town & Country on a Tow Dolly, wheel drive option, chrysler town and country

Question
I own a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country (VIN: 2C8-GP54L55R-469110) and the owners manual indicates that the vehicle can not be towed with front wheels up on a tow dolly. Can you explain why? I was hoping to tow the Town & Country behind an RV for about 6,000 miles over a 30 day period (California to North Carolina, and back).

Answer
If your van has the all wheel drive option then the manual is correct. The transmission will be damaged on awd/4wd because the rear wheels are still rolling and transmits this to the transmission. If your van is fwd, I don't see how anything could be damaged if the van is tow dollied with the front wheels in the dolly and the ignition is off. As a side note, if your van is still under warranty and the owners manual states specifically not to tow dolly a 2wd van you will void the warranty.
