Toyota Repair: 1990 toyota truck tps switch, air fuel mixture, headgaskets

Question
ok i think i have narrowed it down some more. My truck was running with a very bad sputter in the engine tonight just for the heck of it i unplugged the tps swith , the truck still has a small sputter but is running ALOT better do you think that this can be adjusted ? if so how do you adjust the tps or does it just have to be replaced ?

Answer
There is a very small amount of adjustment so I don't think that will fix the problem, is there a check engine light on? Does it idle normally or is there a misfire noticeable at idle? There may be another mechanical problem with the engine, disconnecting the tps just makes the air/fuel mixture richer which will help cover up the real problem which causes the engine to run too lean because of a mechanical problem. I would recommend having the engine compression tested to make sure that it doesn't have a combustion leak, these engines also had problems with headgaskets leaking so I would have it checked for that also.
