Volkswagen: replacing 71 beetle engine, fly wheel, compatibility problem

I found a "running" complete engine, after removing old engine, I noticed the pressure plate's on fly wheel was different. installed new engine. It turns over very slowly. is there a compatibility problem? where should I start?

It is hard to tell, as I'm not sure what year engine you have replaced the old 71 engine with.
