Volkswagen: Radio Problems, vw jetta, radio problems

Question
Hey,
The radio in my 2002 VW Jetta TDI isn't working.  im not sure whether it is the antenna or unconnected wires inside the the actual radio. no stations work at all (it sounds like the radio is trying to get the signal- kind of hear a bit of a voice or sound now and then). This happens in both AM and FM and i was wondering what your input is before i call my dealer. the thing is, is that here and then (like once every two months) the radio will work for about 20 seconds, (in FM station) at a poor quality and then go to static again. this problem has been going on for about 5-6 months and i wonder whether i should just go get the dealer to fix it.

Thanks a lot,
Nick

Answer
Hi Nick ---

Try two things first

1) Examine the antenna first, make sure it is tight and there is a wire screwed to the bottom of it.   If you cannot see it, there should be an access panel next to the unit itself.

2) See if you can gently get your hand behind the radio, and push in all of the plugs.

This sounds like a routine antenna problem, and most likely, you will be able to fix it yourself.

Keep me posted.
