Tips on Buying Cars: Used Vehicle Purchase, sign contracts, doing the right thing

Question
If two days after a USED vehicle was purchased it broke down & was towed back to the dealer for a few days, then it was given back & the following day it broke down again & towed back to the dealer once again. Now they are stating they will not allow for the purchaser to walk away due to a contract being signed. They want the individual to accept another vehicle. Is that correct?

Answer
Angie,

Thanks for your question.  Technically yes it is correct.  When you purchase a vehicle, sign contracts and take delivery of the vehicle, then you are the owner, and it is up to the dealership as to whether they want to void the contract, not the consumer.  It sounds like the dealership is doing the right thing, by offering another vehicle in exchange.  There are plenty of dealers out there that would not do anything.  If the dealership is offering another vehicle for purchase and giving that option, they are trying to work with the person to make them as happy as possible.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
