How to Change the Shifter Light on a Ford Fusion

If the shifter light on your Ford Fusion goes out, you should replace it as soon as you can in order to prevent any accidents caused by not being able to see what gear you are in. As the bulb is located on the instrument cluster of the Fusion, replacing the shifter light is actually fairly simple and should take only half an hour to complete

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 192-LL bulb
  • Pry the dash panel above the steering wheel upwards to reveal three screws underneath. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and lift off the Fusion's dash panel to reveal the instrument cluster.

  • Uninstall all four of the screws on the Fusion's instrument cluster and pull the cluster towards you.

  • Reach behind the cluster and locate the shifter light at the bottom of the cluster. Pull it straight out and install a replacement 192-LL bulb, making sure that the bulb clicks into place.

  • Reinstall the screws and replace the cluster; reinstall the remaining three screws and the dash panel to the Ford Fusion.
