How to Remove the Radio From a Nissan Sentra

The Nissan Sentra is a compact car sold around the world under various nameplates. The Sentra has been sold in the United States since 1982. Its primary competitors are the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Mazda 3. The Sentra has a unique dash setup that requires removing a few panels to access the radio. The radio and air conditioning panels are attached, unlike in many other vehicles.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Trim Panel Tool or Small Flathead Screwdriver
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Park your Sentra in a safe, well-lit location. Turn your engine off and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shock. Let the vehicle sit for five minutes after disconnecting the battery.

Disconnect your negative battery cable for safety.
  • Use the trim panel tool or the small flathead screwdriver to pry off the trim panel above the radio (the panel with the small storage compartment). It is only attached by clips; once you pry up one side of the panel, remove it with your hands.

    Upper-dash trim panel.
  • Remove the two screws above the radio. The screws will become visible when you have removed the upper dash trim panel.

  • Remove the small trim panel below the radio and the air conditioning controls. Grab both sides of the panel with your hands and carefully pull it off. Like the upper dash trim panel, it is attached by clips.

  • Remove the two screws mounting the lower part of the radio and the air conditioning control panel. Pull the radio and panel out of the dash (they are held together by clips). Disconnect the wiring harness and the antenna cable from the rear of the radio. Disconnect the radio from the air conditioning control panel and set the radio aside.
