How to Remove a Factory Car Stereo From a Buick

Although the factory car stereo installed in a Buick can be a high-end model, there may be an occasion where you want to upgrade the head unit to something with more features. Maybe you want to add Bluetooth to your car, or just an iPod connection. You can do this by removing the factory stereo and then installing an aftermarket model with the features you want. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2007 Buick Lacrosse, but the process is similar for other Buick vehicles as well.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/4-inch ratchet, extension and socket set
  • Pull forward on the trim panel below the climate control panel with your hands to remove it from the dash. Remove the two bolts underneath the climate control panel using the 1/4-inch ratchet, extension and sockets.

  • Pull the climate control panel off of the dashboard and unplug the wiring on the climate control panel. Set it to the side.

  • Pull off the trim panel located just above the stereo with your hands. Unplug any wiring connected to the panel with your hands. Then unbolt the two bolts holding the top of the stereo in place with the ratchet.

  • Slide the factory stereo out of the dashboard cavity using your hands. Remove all wiring on the backside with your hands. Take the stereo out of the Buick.
