How to Make a Car Air Freshener With Soap

After cleaning your car, you want it to continue smelling fresh. But long-lasting, store-bought air fresheners can be expensive and they might not fit in with the color or ambiance of your car. Creating your own air freshener takes only a few minutes, and it slides directly under your seats.

Things You'll Need

  • Bar of fresh smelling soap (unused)
  • Two or three plastic zip baggies
  • Knife
  • Scissors
  • Cheese grater
  • Open your bar of soap and place it on a hard surface. Use your knife to cut the bar of soap in half.

  • Use a cheese grater to shred the soap into a plastic bag. Do this for both halves, and place each half into its own baggie.

  • Zip the bags and release all air from the bags. Use a pair of scissors to cut about four to five small holes in the baggie to let the fragrance out.

  • Place these plastic baggies of soap underneath the seats in your car. Replace with new soap shavings once every three to four weeks or whenever the fragrance becomes lighter.
