Cadillac Steering Wheel Airbag Removal

Cadillacs come equipped with airbags inside the steering column that deploy to prevent serious injuries in case of a crash. You can safely remove and install new airbags yourself.

Deactivation

  • You will need to safely deactivate the airbags from deploying while removing them by first disconnecting your negative battery cable. Then, remove the airbag fuse to fully deactivate the airbag system.

Removal

  • You will need to unscrew your lower dash and steering column panels with a screwdriver and remove them. The airbag is behind the steering wheel. You will need to remove the bolts holding the airbag in place and unplug it from the Cadillac's wiring harness inside the column.

Reconnecting

  • If you choose, you can plug in a new airbag into the wiring harness and bolt it to the back of the steering wheel. Then, place the panels back on and screw them in snugly. You can then safely reinsert the airbag fuse into the fuse panel and reconnect the negative battery cable.
