Where Is the Water Drain on a 2007 F-250?

The process of draining water from your diesel fuel in a 2007 Ford F-250 pickup truck is a task you can perform without a visit to a mechanic. Water mixed in with your diesel fuel can lead to corrosion within the engine, which can result in decreased efficiency of the injection system and faulty engine performance. The 2007 F-250, like most modern diesel engines, is equipped with a water separator.

Preparing Truck for Water Drainage

  • Park the truck on a flat surface and turn the engine off. Engage the parking brake to ensure the truck does not move during the draining procedure. Have equipment on hand to jack up the truck, if necessary. Exercise extreme caution when working underneath the truck.

Locate the Water Drain

  • Look for the horizontal fuel conditioning module, which houses the water drain. The module is within the frame rail, underneath the driver-side floorboards, near the truck's transmission.

Drain Procedure

  • Place a large bucket underneath the drain and loosen the hex nut with a 6mm socket, turning counterclockwise. Let the fuel drain for about 25 seconds or until you can see clean fuel. Close the drain by turning the hex nut clockwise. After you have removed the bucket, restart the truck and determine whether the "Water in Fuel" light has been extinguished. If the light is still on, check the fuel system again or bring the truck to a mechanic for service.

Disposal of Drainage

  • Dispose of the drained fluid according to local or state laws at an appropriate fuel transfer site, as the water you've drained is mixed with diesel fuel.
