How to Change Interior Lamps on a Ford F-150 Truck

The interior light in your Ford F-150 truck--more commonly called the dome light--isn't a critical item to have for everyday use, but if you ever need to look at something on the inside of your pickup, it comes in handy. When that bulb goes out, it's usually right when you need it the most, and it can become terribly inconvenient. Fortunately, changing the bulb in the dome light isn't a complicated process, and you can do this in just a few minutes with a screwdriver.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • Replacement bulb
  • Open the door of your truck, and slide the dome light switch to the "Off" position. You want the light turned off so that it doesn't burn your hand in the process.

  • Place a small flat-head screwdriver in the slot on the cover of the dome light, and pull it back to pop off the cover. This will give you access to the bulb.

  • Twist out the bulb with your hands, and insert the replacement bulb in the same manner as the factory model.

  • Reinstall the dome light cover, and move the switch to the "On" or "Door" position. Verify that the bulb works; if not, make sure it's plugged in all the way.
