How to Replace an Air Filter in a Hyundai Santa Fe

A clean air filter is an important part to helping a Hyundai Santa Fe get good gas mileage and have a long engine life. Air filters should be changed every 30,000 miles for normal wear and tear, or every 3,000 miles when the vehicle is driven in extremely dusty conditions. Spend as little as 5 to 10 minutes to replace the air filter.

  • Turn the Santa Fe off to prevent the car from backfiring while you change the air filter. Leave the car off the entire time.

  • Lift the hood of the Hyundai. Locate the air filter housing unit on the driver's side of the car, in the front corner. Look for a black, plastic box that has a hose attached to it that leads to the engine.

  • Open the lid on the air filter housing unit by loosening the clips that hold it in place. Lift the lid off of the unit.

  • Pull the old filter from the housing unit, using caution not to dislodge any dirt from the filter. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the housing with a damp cloth.

  • Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2198, for a Hyundai Santa Fe manufactured from 2001 to 2006.

  • Close the lid on the housing unit. Secure the lid in place by reattaching the clips.
