Klassic Keyless Remote Entry System - Klick It Up

If you’re like many modern-day car owners, you’re accustomed to calling upon a key fob to control your car’s door locks remotely. Even imagining a return to the days of manual door locks seems barbaric.

But what about your classic Pontiac? The extra-cost power-door-lock option didn’t become available in Pontiac’s fullsize and Tempest/GTO models until ’69, and in the Firebird series until ’70, and those units featured in-cabin controls only. A remote power-door-lock fob wasn’t a standard feature on most Pontiacs until the ’90s.

Thankfully, retrofitting a remote power-door-lock system is as simple as installing Klassic Keyless. It converts manual door locks to power without changing the appearance of the interior. The kit fits ’64-’72 GTOs, ’67-’81 Firebirds or Trans Ams, and ’70-’74 Venturas, with more classic Pontiac models to follow. It retails for $220.

To find how easy it is to install, we invited Klassic Keyless product designer Tom Pelchat to the HPP Tech Center for an install on a ’68 Firebird 400 convertible, which took just a few hours.

Let’s see how it was done.
