Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance on test drive, insurance card, test drive

When going to a dealer they ask for my insurance card before a test drive. If I am driving their car with a dealer tag does my insurance have to pay? If I did not have a car or thus insurance could I take a test drive?

Hi Lloyd,

Yes. When you test drive a vehicle and have an accident, you are responsible for the damage even if you do not have insurance. It is the dealers option if they let you test drive a car without insurance or pehaps they would sell you a short term policy for the test drive.
