Car Stereos: 2004 durango stereo, cd mp3 player, global positioning system

Question
I have a RAQ 6 cd/mp3 player stereo.  A cd got stuck in the changer and the mode button quit reading cd, the eject button also quit working.  I took it all apart and a cd was broken.  I put it back together and still can not get a cd on the mode button.  It is like the cd part is blown.  Is there a fuse, should I take it in to be repaired or buy a new unit.  What is the difference between RAQ, RAK, and REF if I buy a replacement?  Will the RAK work since I have the VES DVD entertainment system?

Answer
Hi Tom.

yes there is a fuse that powers up your radio but if the radio turns on i don't really think that the fuse its blown.
what i would do man, i would get an estimate on the repair first and then go to the dealership so they can quote you a price then let your wallet decide.

Mopar radios are designed to work perfectly with your vehicle's electrical system and integrate seamlessly with your dash. each features 66 watts of total power, 12 presets AM/FM and Sirius satellite radio compatibility

RAQ=AM/FM radio with 6-disc CD/MP3 player and hands free compatibility

RAK=AM/FM radio with cassette, 6-disc CD/MP3 player and WMA compatibility

REF=im not familiar with this term i dont know if you meant REC

NAVIGATION RADIO (REC) is a sophisticated, yet simple-to-use combination DVD navigation/stereo system. It utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, one geographic DVD data disc, and onboard computing to provide you with turn-by-turn directions for the entire mapped United States and parts of Canada. Highlights include voice instruction (in English, French-Canadian or Spanish), automatic re-route calculation, full-map displays, extensive points-of-interest listings and memory for storing 100 personal addresses. The unit also features a 5.8-inch Diagonal
Color Display, AM/FM Stereo, DVD Player, 6-Disc CD/MP3 Player
and 12 AM, 12 FM and 12 SIRIUS Satellite Radio presets.

And about the VES DVD system i thought those were made by Mercedes correct me if im mistaken, but as far as the compatibility yes you can incorporate it to your factory radio doesn't matter if you choose the RAQ,RAK or REF as a replacement, as long as you have a separate dvd player for your screen.

i hope this helps and sorry for the delay i have been getting a lot of questions lately

best regards.

Ed.

Hey Tom.

sorry for the confusion, you can probably get it fix for way less then 150 if you take it to a certified audio/video repair shop where you can get warranty for the job, of course dealerships are not gonna send it to repair, they want your money :D. i personally have had bad experience with ebay.com its hard to get items warranted if something happens.

Good luck.
