Nissan Repair: 1995 G20 Code P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor, optical pickup, position sensor

Hi, My G20 (which had been running well) stalled and check engine light came on registering code P0340 (camshaft position sensor).  After 2 hours of puttering and many attemps to start, the car started again.  Then after 10 minutes at idle it died and wouldn't start again.  I have spark at the plug, rotating distributor, and gas in the cylider.  Does it appear to be this sensor?  Is it located under the distributor cap?  What would you recommend?  -Thanks

I would replace the distributor as it probably has oil on the optical pickup.  If you take the cap, rotor, rotorpost and cover off you can see the disc that acts as a shutter wheel.  If there is a thin film of oil on it you have found the problem.  A rebuilt distributor will be in order.
