Honda: honda accord auot transmission, first transmission, honda accord

My 1989 accord auto transmisson slips when going into overdrive. You have to drive in 3rd gear. All the other gears are fine, is this a commom problem with this car? Also what can be done short, of having the transmission rebuilt?

I'm sorry, but I cannot help you.  It seems as though you should wait it out until the whole transmission goes.  Think that some cars only have three gears to begin with.  I'd think you need a rebuild, and you need to decide whether it's worth it or not.  Money for gas (no overdrive)...or money for tranny rebuild.  My girlfriend had a newer Camry.  After the first transmission rebuild, it needed more work about 6 months later.
