Stepping into a modified vehicle can sometimes be a challenge. Even the step-in height on some stock vehicles can make you look as though you are performing amateur gymnastics as you lurch to get behind the wheel. Fortunately, Smittybilt has a full line of affordable step-in aids known as the Sure Steps.

These classic tubular steel step rails are an easy bolt-on product that is especially helpful for those with vertically challenged physiques. Available in either a glossy black or stainless steel finish, each Sure Step set is application-specific and doesn’t require any drilling to install.

Since our ’88 Ford Bronco totes coolers, kids, and camping gear to the beach, we thought the fullsize two-door was an excellent candidate for the step rails. They installed in just over an hour, and now our friends (and their kids) can venture in and out of the rig with more ease and grace.

PhotosView Slideshow To create a safe and secure place to set your foot, each Sure Step has a flat, wide step pad. The pads are recessed and secured with a five-pin mounting system to prevent them from becoming flimsy or peeling off over time. The Sure Step is 100 percent bolt-on and can easily be installed in your driveway with basic handtools. On our Bronco, the steps bolted to the body mount in the front of the cab and used a bracket assembly to tie into the rear portion to the frame.
