Mazda: Mazda rx7, apex seals, mazda rx7

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1987 Mazda rx7. WE have replace the alternator, batter and starter because it needed it also replaced the spark plugs, the wires are fine the car cranks but will not turn over. Any ideas.  There is also power going and coming from the coils. My husband is a mechanic but he's been working on heavy equipment and he is stumped. Oh we have also replace the wiring harness all is fine all fuses seem to be ok to. HELP!!!! I'm ready to sell it.

ANSWER: You'll have to visibly check for spark at the spark plugs.
if you have spark then,
Fuel, Compression then Timing are what remain.

If you get combustion from a shot of ether then check the timing.

If the engine free spins and does not show sign of loping under compression them the Apex seals may have retracted and you have lost compression as a result.  When was the lsat time it ran?

QUESTION: It has compression and it has spark at the plugs. It last ran a week and a half ago.  I thought rotaries weren't timed?
Thanks for answers.

Answer
Yep, driver side next to the alternator is a pick up device, similar to a distributor with no cap or wires.

If you have compression and have spark then it's either ignition timing or fuel delivery?  Fuel delivery is easy.  If it sputters and tries to run on a small shot of starting fluid then it's not getting fuel.  The timing remains unchanged if the sensor was untouched.  If it was rotated then there in lies a part of your problem.
