Chrysler Repair: Changing valve cover gaskets (89 3.0L), chrysler new yorker, flat surfaces

Question
I need directions on changing the valve cover gaskets on an 89 Chrysler New Yorker 3 liter v6

Answer
Hi Dave,
Other than carefully cleaning the surface of the head and the cover where they mate with the new gasket and holes/threads for the bolts, the only additional step is to apply a 1/16 inch bead of RTV that is 3/8 inch long at the four bends of the cover where flat surfaces intersects with the semicircles at each end, thus four separate short strips of RTV each a total of 3/8" long (i.e. about 3/16 on the flat and 3/16 up the curve, going around the sharp corner in order to seal it there). Mate the gasket to the cover and let the RTV setup so that the gasket adheres to the cover.  Then put on the cover and tighten the bolt/washers to 88 inch-pounds in four steps.
